This Data Product serves as the Historic Districts data, including National Register of Historic Places district designations, for Campbell County, KY. This Historic Districts Data Product is a custodial copy of the authoritative statewide data maintained by the Kentucky Heritage Council (KHC), the State Historic Preservation Office, obtained from the KHC Public GIS web service (KHCPublicGIS_view, NRDistricts layer) and clipped to the Campbell County area; KHC is the system of record. This Historic Districts Data Product is primarily intended for display, analysis, and mapping for current planning purposes, community development projects, and GIS-related analyses. The Historic Districts Data Product is not intended for property taxation purposes. This Data Product is stored, edited and maintained as polygon geometry. Boundaries typically follow the legal descriptions contained in the National Register nomination forms and are not survey-accurate. This Historic Districts Data Product may change at any time, with or without notice. This Historic Districts Data Product contains districts listed in the National Register of Historic Places; it does not contain locally designated historic districts or historic overlay zoning districts adopted by individual cities.
To provide a locally accessible, county-clipped copy of the Commonwealth's authoritative National Register historic district boundaries for use in general planning, zoning review, permit intake screening, environmental and Section 106 background review, economic development and tax credit inquiries, and public reference mapping within the Campbell County area. This dataset is intended for general planning purposes only and is not a determination of designation status for any individual parcel.

Historic districts are listed in the National Register by the Keeper of the National Register, National Park Service, following nomination through the Kentucky Heritage Council, which serves as Kentucky's State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO). Listing in the National Register is an honorific and planning designation. It requires federal agencies to consider effects on listed properties under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act when an undertaking is federally funded, licensed, or permitted, and it makes qualifying properties eligible for federal and state rehabilitation tax credits. National Register listing does not by itself restrict a private property owner's ability to alter, demolish, or build. Those restrictions arise from locally designated historic districts and historic overlay zoning adopted by individual cities, which are administered separately and are not represented in this dataset.
Boundaries are graphic representations of the legal descriptions contained in the National Register nomination forms and are not survey-accurate. They must not be used to determine whether an individual parcel lies inside a district, nor whether a resource within a district is contributing or non-contributing. For those determinations, consult the National Register nomination on file with the Kentucky Heritage Council.
Locally designated historic districts and historic overlay zoning districts adopted by cities within Campbell County are NOT included in this dataset. Users seeking regulatory boundaries subject to design review or certificate of appropriateness requirements should contact the applicable city.

Attributes are carried over from the Kentucky Heritage Council source data without modification, except where noted in the process steps below. KHC is responsible for attribute accuracy. Attribute completeness varies by district and reflects the content of the underlying National Register nomination.
No topological validation is performed by LINK-GIS beyond that applied by the Kentucky Heritage Council. Districts may overlap where boundary increases, boundary decreases, or multiple overlapping designations exist.
Includes only historic districts listed in the National Register of Historic Places as recorded by the Kentucky Heritage Council and falling within or intersecting the Campbell County area. Locally designated historic districts and historic overlay zoning districts are not included. Individually listed National Register properties that are not districts are not included; those are maintained by KHC in separate layers.
Positional accuracy is inherited from the Kentucky Heritage Council source data and has not been independently assessed by LINK-GIS. Boundaries are graphic representations of the legal descriptions in the National Register nominations and do not represent on-the-ground surveys.
Prior to this update, historic designation polygons for the Campbell County area were compiled and maintained locally by LINK-GIS / PDS from a mix of National Register and locally adopted sources.
Locally compiled polygons were retired and replaced with the Kentucky Heritage Council's authoritative National Register district boundaries. Features were extracted from the KHC Public GIS web service (KHCPublicGIS_view, NRDistricts layer), reprojected from Web Mercator Auxiliary Sphere (WKID 3857) to the LINK-GIS production coordinate system, and clipped to the Campbell County area. LINK-GIS now maintains this layer as a custodial copy; KHC remains the system of record.
